Forza Horizon 6 Arrives on PS5 in January 2027 With First Expansion

Forza Horizon 6 : Microsoft’s open world racing game reaches PlayStation 5 with shared saves, multiplayer support, and 5 days of early access for Premium Edition buyers.

Microsoft’s move to bring more Xbox games to PlayStation is continuing with Forza Horizon 6. Playground Games has confirmed that the racing game will launch on PS5 on January 26, 2027, roughly 8 months after its May 19 debut on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The January launch pushes the game beyond its original 2026 PlayStation release window.

Premium Edition buyers can begin playing on January 21, the same day the game’s first paid expansion launches across all platforms. In the US, the Standard Edition costs $69.99, the Deluxe Edition $99.99, and the Premium Edition $119.99. The Deluxe Edition adds the Welcome Pack and Car Pass, while Premium includes additional car packs, VIP membership, and 2 expansions.

PlayStation owners will receive cross platform multiplayer, shared game progress, and access to content created by existing players. Playground Games also plans to release a physical PS5 edition, while customers who preorder any edition will receive a specially tuned Ferrari J50.

PS5 Version Includes Months of Previous Updates

Panic Button is developing the PS5 version in collaboration with Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios. The developer previously handled the 2025 PS5 port of Forza Horizon 5. Microsoft has not provided a detailed explanation for the revised release schedule.

On the standard PS5, players can choose between a 4K Quality mode running at 30 FPS and a Performance mode offering 60 FPS. Playground Games has not announced dedicated PS5 Pro enhancements or separate performance targets for Sony’s more powerful console.

The later arrival means PlayStation owners will also have access to content introduced after the original launch. This includes Drift Attack, a mode where players compete for drifting points at the Shimanoyama Circuit, and October’s Horizon Meets update, which introduced Festival Playlist rewards such as the 2025 BMW M4 CS.

First Premium Expansion Launches January 21

The first Premium Expansion launches on January 21, 2027, across Xbox, PC, and PS5. It is included with the Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, and Expansions Bundle, but will also be sold separately.

What remains surprising is how little Playground Games has disclosed about a major paid expansion arriving in just over 3 months. The studio has yet to reveal its central theme, setting, vehicles, or gameplay features, leaving prospective Premium Edition buyers with limited information about a significant part of the $119.99 package.

Previous Forza Horizon expansions, including Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure, introduced substantial new environments and distinct driving experiences. Although Playground Games has revealed expansions relatively close to launch before, the absence of even a basic concept makes it difficult to judge what the upcoming content will offer.

A free content update is also planned around the January launch, although its features remain unannounced. Playground Games has offered no specific reveal date, stating, “We will share more details about this closer to release.”

Cross Platform Saves And Multiplayer

Forza Horizon 6 will support shared progress between PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam through a linked Microsoft account. Players can also access custom EventLab races, vehicle liveries, tuning setups, and other community creations regardless of platform.

However, shared progress does not mean shared purchases. Existing Xbox and PC owners must buy the PS5 edition separately, and previously purchased downloadable content will not automatically transfer.

The release reflects Microsoft’s broader shift away from keeping major franchises exclusive to Xbox. Sea of Thieves and Hi Fi Rush reached PlayStation in 2024, followed by Forza Horizon 5 in 2025. Forza Horizon 6 continues that approach with a new entry arriving on Sony’s console within its first year.

The January launch will bring the latest Horizon game to PlayStation with the same multiplayer network and access to existing community content. Playground Games has confirmed the release dates, but the first expansion’s theme and any dedicated PS5 Pro improvements remain unannounced.
