PlayStation Store Lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced Without Confirming 60 FPS

PS5 Pro:” Sony confirms GTA 6 will support PS5 Pro enhancements, but Rockstar’s reported 30 FPS development target raises questions about what the more expensive console will actually deliver.

Sony’s PlayStation Store lists Grand Theft Auto VI as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but the designation leaves a major question unanswered: will Rockstar Games offer a 60 FPS performance mode when the game launches on November 19, 2026?

With the PS5 Pro now priced at $899.99 in the US, players considering an upgrade have little concrete information about what the extra hardware will deliver.

Sony has highlighted support for DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the ultra-high-speed SSD. Those features are also available on the standard PS5. Neither company has published specific resolution targets, graphics settings, or performance modes for GTA 6 on PS5 Pro.

There is, however, an important clue. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson reportedly told content creator Davy Jones during a private preview that current console builds were running at 30 FPS. Nelson did not rule out higher frame rates, explaining that the technical team would need to assess the possibility.

Why PS5 Pro Enhanced Does Not Guarantee 60 FPS

Sony’s PS5 Pro Enhanced designation identifies games that use the console’s additional hardware capabilities. Developers can improve resolution, introduce more advanced ray tracing, or use AI upscaling without increasing frame rates.

The PS5 Pro features a GPU with 67% more compute units than the standard PS5. It also supports faster ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI upscaler that reconstructs sharper 4K images from lower internal resolutions.

The processor tells a different story.

Both consoles use AMD’s Zen 2 CPU architecture. Although PS5 Pro offers an optional high-frequency mode with approximately 10% higher CPU clock speeds, its processor remains relatively close to the original hardware.

GTA 6’s traffic systems, pedestrian behavior, physics, and complex world simulation could place substantial pressure on the CPU. Additional GPU power cannot automatically remove those limitations.

Other PS5 Pro games demonstrate the tradeoff. Alan Wake 2 adds ray-traced reflections in its 30 FPS quality mode, while PSSR improves image clarity. Earlier versions of the upscaler also struggled with visual artifacts around foliage and fine details, although Sony’s upgraded PSSR technology has improved image stability.

GTA 6 Footage Points Toward a Demanding Technical Target

Rockstar’s August 27 Extended Look presentation was captured entirely on a standard PS5. Digital Foundry’s analysis suggested the footage was running at approximately 1440p internally, upscaled to 4K, with a relatively stable 30 FPS output.

A separate promotional image released alongside Rockstar’s October 8 music and radio announcement showed a rain-soaked Vice City street with detailed reflections.

Digital Foundry analyst Oliver Mackenzie questioned whether the image represented standard PS5 gameplay or a higher-quality capture. Rockstar has not identified the hardware used for that particular promotional shot.

The studio also has a history of prioritizing graphical detail over higher console frame rates. GTA V originally targeted 30 FPS on PS3 and Xbox 360, while Red Dead Redemption 2 launched with a similar target on PS4 and Xbox One.

A 40 FPS Mode Could Offer a Middle Ground

The uncertainty has prompted discussion among PS5 Pro owners on Reddit’s r/PS5Pro community. Several players expect improved ray tracing, greater draw distances, and sharper graphics rather than a guaranteed 60 FPS mode. One commenter captured that cautious optimism, writing, “Maybe a 40 fps mode if we are lucky.”

A 40 FPS option could offer a practical compromise, provided Rockstar can meet its processing demands.

At 30 FPS, the system has approximately 33.3 milliseconds to produce each frame. That drops to 25 milliseconds at 40 FPS and 16.7 milliseconds at 60 FPS.

For evenly paced 40 FPS gameplay, consoles typically use a 120 Hz display mode, presenting each frame across three refresh cycles. Standard 60 Hz televisions cannot display 40 FPS with equally spaced refresh intervals. A 4K 120 Hz connection also generally requires HDMI 2.1 support.

Rockstar has not announced such a mode, and the CPU limitations could still make it difficult to implement consistently.

Is GTA 6 Worth a PS5 Pro Upgrade?

The PS5 Pro’s stronger graphics hardware could improve GTA 6’s image quality, ray tracing, and resolution. However, the actual differences between the two PlayStation consoles remain unmeasured.

Before spending nearly $900, buyers should look for a proper technical breakdown covering frame rates, image quality, and gameplay performance under demanding conditions.

Digital Foundry’s testing and direct comparisons will be particularly valuable once Rockstar provides access to the final game.

For now, the PlayStation Store confirms enhanced support, but it does not establish whether GTA 6 will feel smoother on PS5 Pro or simply look better.
